this pin is a shade under 4.5 inches long the cap is about 5/8th

Many thanks for writing in. The nylon cap looks like our 21-106 that is used on a 3/16" pin. The top of the cap is 3/8" and the brim is 5/8". Please compare and let us know your thoughts.

the cap looks fine but the pin doesn't look right....

Remove your cap and see if the pin is machined down to accept the cap. If you want to replace the complete pin, we will need the diameter of the pin and components that go with it. Or, better yet, let us see the other pins in back of the mirror door for identification.
