mortise fell in

A quick learner from Woodbridge, VA says:
The mortise lock in my patio door is no longer usable. It fell into the door. I have ordered and purchased a few different locks and all of them were too large. The last model ordered was the 82-218. The screw holes lined up but the body was too wide and the length was too long. The body of the lock is only 1/2' wide and the opening is 3 1/8" from top to bottom. Its rounded on the top and bottom as well.

If your old mortise lock fell into the door, odds are it was the 82-218. I've had a lot of customers tell me that the 82-218 was too big, but in every case it ended up fitting. I think the manufacturer intentionally makes them to be a little big, probably so that the tight is fit. I am confident that it will install in your door. I also recommend watching the video below to see how to install it without the risk of it falling into your door again.
