mortise lock

Home Owner from Oregon
Ian replacing a two point mortise lock in a slider.  The holes that go through the door are 5" apart.  How do I know which end of the mortise lock goes up?  Will it work with either end up?  I assembled the lock and handle but the lock won't operate.  When I remove the lock and try to operate it still doesn't want to work smoothly even when depressing the middle pin. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your post! This mortise lock does not have an up versus down orientation. It should operator the same no matter which direction it is installed. Based on the description of the issue, it sounds like there may be an issue with the internal mechanisms. That said, you'll likely need to replace it.

Your lock reminds me of the 82-238 Double Hook Mortise Lock. Carefully review and compare the dimensions to confirm.
