plastic stripping that's small enuf to fit snugly in the aluminum canal to hold vinyl window goes on top of the vinyl.

I can't make out what you have here, unfortunately. I would need to see an undamaged end profile to compare to our inventory. I know it's probably brittle and falling apart but I'm afraid that's the only way we can help.
