need balance shoe for vinyl window - maybe spring too??

Landlord from Quincy, MA
The balance shoe is damaged. The part in the photos is 2.25" tall.

The window no longer stays open, even when connected to the balance shoe. There is no spring cover nor any visible spring mechanism. I'm not sure what the mechanism was.

- which balance shoe should I buy?
- I don't see any spring mechanism. what part(s) do I need for that?

This is probably not enough info for you to recommend specific parts, but any clues would be welcome.

Thanks for contacting us. Based on your photos, I think our 15-087 looks like it'd be a good match. Look it over and let me know what you think.

You should have a spring in there. It may even still be working, but if you do need a good one then the Series 180 is designed to work with the 15-087. You'll need the stamp off the old one to confirm the best option.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for this very helpful response. I have ordered all the parts that I might need to repair the window.

There is no evidence that there was a balance shoe on both sides. The parts I'm replacing are all from the right side.

Is is possible that only one side had a coil balance?

(The coil is stamped with "9" and the window is pretty standard size.)

Best regards,
Maddie

Hey, Maddie. It is very, very unlikely that only one balance was used to support your sash. It is standard practice to use two; one on each side. I can't think of any exceptions in the years I've been repairing these.
