I have a 4' x 5 1/2' foot Peachtree wood window, double hung, over 40 years old? Bottom window hard to pull up and won't stay up. Can you help me?

Hi, Marvin. Sounds like you need a sash balance. Take a look at our selection to figure out what style you need. Each style has its own identification guide that you can click through. Alternately, you can send us photos of the balances from your window jamb, so that we can identify a replacement.

Thank you for the reply. The window is made of wood with plastic side channels. I don't know how to access the sash balance? Could you help me. The window is about 30 to 40 years old

Don't worry! Your instincts seem sharp: those plastic side channels probably contain the sash balances. You can open the window and look around in the channels (jambs) for some kind of metal spiral, coil, or spring; that would be your balance. You can also open or remove the window, and take pictures of the side channels for us to inspect. Photos are the best way to do it.
