Drilling new holes for pivot bars

A quick learner from New Jersey says:
Can I drill a new hole in a window sash pivot bar if the pivot bar holes don't line up with the holes in the window channel??

Tom from SWISCO responded:

That is possible, yes, but you have to be careful when drilling new holes in a sash. You don't want to drill too deep or you risk hitting the glass, which would crack or even shatter it. You also want to make sure that the new hole does not overlap any of the old ones.

Otherwise, you should be okay. I've done it myself plenty of times in a pinch.
