replacement seal

Currently trying to figure out what type of replacement seal is best for bottoms of my double hung windows. I've noticed there are 2 kerfs on bottom of all windows where they meet the sash. In picture I have tried a 5/16" kerf seal which seams to work well, but no idea what original seal looked like.

Unfortunately, there's no way for me to know what weatherseal worked best for this window without having the original on hand as a reference. Do you have an identical window in the house that may still have all the original parts?

If not, the only thing we can do is make a recommendation based on what you have installed now. If that's something that interests you, please remove an undamaged sample and show me a clear shot of the end profile.

I've attached a couple of photos of the original seal I finally found on bottom sash of my double hung windows. Maybe this can help determine type better. Looks to be 1/4". Would slightly large provide a better seal as windows are wood, and sill has dropped some lower over the years? Thank you for previous reply also.

Thanks! This is a huge help. My first recommendation would be the 58-053. This looks like a dead ringer for what you show here, but review our dimensions just to be 100% sure they all match up.

Slightly larger isn't necessarily better. If it's too big then the excess friction will make your window much harder to open and close. Of course, if the frame is warped then it can be a little tricky; in those situations you won't find anything that will be exactly right, since any gaps will be uneven across the frame. It might be best just to see if the original will work, otherwise you might be looking at a new frame.
