replacing old felt

A quick learner from Mountain Center, Ca. says:

Can you tell me what is the tools name for removing the dimples that hold the strips in place, and the tool that places the dimples to keep them there? I got every tool a wife wants to chuck out the garage door but not these. Made her think just how cold it is! Thanks.

All most forgot, I'm going to do 65' of felt and should ask can you use a calipers pointy end to measure the width of felt channel then adding a bit for a good fit? I'm pretty sure the height was 5/16th, I learned about getting to high, windows didn't open, and still don't, maybe they will this time.thanks again.

There's not really a special tool to undo those dimples.. To open the felt channels that have dimples, first lay the sash down and secure to the table, then place a thin screwdriver under the channel groove and tap it with a hammer. That will force open the dimple.

Making the dimple itself is a different story. That's really something that has to be done at a shop.

The two dimensions of the wool pile felt is the bottom runner and the height. You can go very slightly higher on the wool pile felt.
