sash balance pulley not working

My home was built in 1989 and I have original windows. I've got a couple of busted windows that no longer stay propped up. Seems like the springs and pulley system isn't working. There's a sash balance on the right side that controls the resistance. How do I go about repairing this? Is this something I can do myself? The insert within the u-shaped outer metal cover is attached to the cover by a rivet. Wondering how I can replace/repair. Thanks for your time.

It looks like you are showing an overhead balance that fits at the top of the window frame. Unfortunately, the balance manufacturer discontinued this balance and there is no known replacement at this time. Our records indicate that the window was made by Premier Window Products in El Cajon, CA but I believe they went out of business. I'm sorry that we won't be able to assist with this repair but please let us know if you have any other hardware questions. Thanks for posting.
