spiral balance

Home Owner from 07042
I would like to replace a broken spiral balance.
Are the dimensions 5/8" x 30"?
Is it best to replace both sides at the same time?

Hello, thanks for posting! It looks like you will need our Series 600 Spiral Balance with a red tip. When determining the length, you will want to measure only the outer tube. We do recommend replacing both at the same time, as pairing a new and an old one can cause the new one to wear out more quickly.

The window is a double hung, non-tilt window. Do you still suggest series 600?
Also do the photos indicate that the correct size is 30" x 5/8"?
Thanks

If the window is non-tilt, then the Series 600 would not be correct. Let's start from the beginning. To obtain the balance length, just measure the outer tube, up to and not including the colored tip. If it's indeed 30", then yes, you have a 30" long balance. The diameter of that outer tube should be either 5/8" or 3/8". Finally, is there any bracket shoe or attachment that the spiral rod connects to?

Thanks for getting back. Yes, in the pictures there are 2 pairs of projections, about 1/2" apart, at the bottom of the spiral that hook into what I guess would be called a bracket shoe. The window is double hung, non- tilt. I don't have the old balance, but I believe the pictures show it to be 30"x5/8"

May we please see a picture of the top of your bottom window sash? Also, take a look at the picture below. It shows the end of the S600, which looks very similar to yours.

My mistake. It is a tilt window. I will go ahead and place an order for the series 600 balances. Thanks
