Hi,
Just have a couple questions for you. Is it possible to get the spring shown and the metal track the window rides in? And also, what would have been the purpose of having the entire spring mounted inside (both ends screwed down) the lower sash? I can't seem to figure out any good that it is doing.
Thanks for your help

I'm afraid you're not going to find this spring anywhere. This is a very, very old window. They probably haven't made this spring in a half century or more. Your best bet is to contact a local mill work that still makes wood windows and see if they can set you up with something newer.
As for the logic behind this design, I really can't say. They stopped making these before I was born. If it makes you feel better, they sure don't make them like this anymore. Whatever flaws this system has, it hasn't even been considered by window manufacturers for a long time.
