the 39-172 but with a different sized arm

A professional from staten island new york says:
the end arm is 4 1/2 inch long the 39-172 is 5 inch long. will I have to the anchor on the sash 1/2 inch in?.

That's not a bad idea, assuming you have the room for it. You could also do an arm replacement trick using a 62-014 rivet. Drill out the old rivet and seal the old 4-1/2" arm onto the new operator.
