upgrading balancer stamp

My balancers are stamped ' 29 5'. I assume this is option 2950. Is it okay to upsize to 2960? This window is always 'heavy' to open with the current balancer size. They don't seem to help lift... Thanks

Thanks for posting. It would depend on the weight of your window sash. The 2950 can support a window sash weight of 28 through 32 pounds, while the 2960 can support 32 through 35 pounds. In which range does your sash weight fall?
Please keep in mind that the weight range information is based on 2 balances per sash. Balances are designed assuming friction in the jamb weather-strip will carry a portion of the sash weight. Suggested sash weights are approximate.

My window weighs 30 lbs. Is there any harm in 'oversizing' to the 2960 to make it easier to open? Thanks

We don't recommend it. Stronger is not always better. You see, the pressure of a stronger balance may cause the sash to creep up when not locked. It could even cause damage to your window if it's too much.
