vinyl window snap beading

Question

I have ten Milgard windows installed in Sept. 1988. Window Two (photo) is large, 58" X 58". The vinyl beading has cracked and weathered.
A sticker on Window One indicates the conformity to ANSI/AAMA 101-85 with Series 1120 HS-CS0 MST 8054.

There are spacers inlaid(??) at the base of the beading, as seen in Window One view A. They seem to sit in the the space between the beading base lip and the beadingside against the window.

If the photos are unclear, I may have better photos next week after our rain breaks.

Also, does this beading actually help to prevent moisture from getting between the double panes of my windows, or is it more for cosmetic appearance?

As a DIY project, I am concerned about how to work the spacers in.

If possible, we'd like you to remove a sample and show us a picture of its end profile. Please make sure the sample is as undamaged as possible, with as clean a cut as you're able to get.
