weather stripping

Handy Person from Massachusetts

I hope you can help. I need to replace the weather stripping on the bottom of the frame that meets the sill. The stripping on the window in question has completely crumbled out. However, the ends are closed. Do you have any suggestions for how to install the weather stripping? Thanks.

Hello,

It looks like you need new wool pile weatherstripping. We should be able to help but you would need to remove a piece from the window to determine the exact pile height and backing width. If there is no opening in the corners of the track where the pile installs, see our video below that shows our method of making a cutout to replace it.

Our video shows the wool pile installed in a sash frame, while yours appears to be attached to the frame of the window. This is not an application we normally see, so we can't make any guarantees, but you may be able to follow the process shown in our video regardless. In the meantime, you can find our selection of wool pile here. Thank you!
