weatherstripping

I have Alenco single sash and slider windows from 1992. I measured the wool weather stripping with calipers and got 3/16" x 3/16". The question I have is: because the window is over 20 years old, will the height of the weather stripping wear? Is the weather stripping really 3/16" or could it be 1/4" when it's new?

Good question! Yes, wool pile can wear down a little over use, and it could even deteriorate if it's particularly old. It's very hard to calculate what height yours was originally, however.
Think of how your sash fits in the frame. If you find it's loose, it may be a good idea to use a 1/4" high pile. I have linked some examples with this Discussion, which you can view on the right side of this page.
