This is a photo of a window mechanism in my 1962 house in Santa Fe, NM. I can't get two windows to open. The window works by pressing down on two leavers,(one on each side.) while lifting with the hand holds underneath. When the lever is released, the window stays in place. I am certain they are not pointed shut. I am not sure how the part holds the window open. There must be some kind of spring applying tension against the window channel, but I am not sure. Have you ever seen anything like this?No one I know has eveer seen a window like this.I need to get the sash out to fix it,but I don't know the best way. I don't want to damage the window or the part. Thanks if you can help.
.
who made window. How does it work. best way to get sash out.

Wow, that's really weird. I'm afraid I've never seen this before. It sounds like your balance uses those locks to kind of wedge the sash in place instead of using a balance spring.
I don't think you're going to find anything like this on the market. Your best bet is to go to a local mill work that still makes wood windows, they may have something for you.
