I mailed a window balance sample and received an automated reply from Mike T. Your package number was 23344. The balance that I sent was numbered 29 4 AX CMC 1 and you advised SWISCO balance #S-385-30 as a replacement part. I also need to replace another balance of the same design that is numbered 29 9 BX CMC 11. This balance is on a larger window, and I would assume it has a stronger spring. Also on the balance that I sent, the metal is "folded" over along the edges. The image of the S-385-30 does not appear so. Does this make any difference?

Good to see you again! Some balance manufacturers use a rolled edge on the balance channel, but there's no difference in operator between that and the straight edge on our own hardware.
29 9 is not a standard stamp option, and there is no way for us to tell what you need with a sample. You will have to weigh your window sash and compare it to the weight options listed for our S385-30.

I finally got around to weighing the window. It weighs 32 pounds. In the weight options, one range is 28-32 and the next is 32-35. Would you suggest the lower or higher option?

In this case, I think you should go with the 2960 option.
