I have a house that was built in the 1970's. It has original tilting triple track storm windows. Many of the windows have had the window balance spring rust and break - or the plastic end to the window balance has broken.
My windows weigh about 16 pounds and the spring is 31 inches and 3/8wide.
Can you help me order the right part for one window? I think I will need 4 window balances and 4 plastic pieces if they don't come with the balance (are these called shoes?).Inline image 1
I want to fix one window correctly and then I will proceed to placing a larger order.
Do I need to order the plastic part that goes at the end?
IMPORTANT!! I do not understand how the spring attaches at the top of the window inside the track. Can you explain this for me in laymen's terms? I would prefer not to have to remove any wood woodwork to make these repairs if at all possible.

Thanks for contacting us. To begin, can we please see photos of your existing balances including the tops and the shoes? Also we need to know the length from metal to metal - not including the nylon ends, and any numbers stamped or engraved on the balances. Our channel balances come fully assembled with tops and shoes.
