The number on the whole part is HG05 2008U
Thanks for reaching out to us. Did you only need the handle itself? If so, there could be a few different possible replacements. The top of the list is going to be the 39-205, which has an 11/32" diameter hole.
Your first step should be to remove the old handle to verify that it's the same size. If it differs, let me know what the actual measurement is and we can try to find you a better match.
These photos are a huge help, thank you! I recognize this handle. What you have here is the old 39-226. This differs from most modern handles in that it's "male," specifically with a 5/16" hex spline. This used to be a fairly popular style once upon a time, but most manufacturers have moved away from this. Nowadays it's the operator that's "male" while the handle is "female." That might account for why you're having trouble finding this.
Now, we still do sell the 39-226, so that very well may work for you as-is. However keep in mind that the issue may not be with the handle, but with the operator itself. These "male" handles are held in place with a small metal washer inside the operator hole, and when that washer breaks the handle becomes loose and inevitably falls out. Does that sound familiar?
The only solution to that is to replace the operator and handle altogether with one of the newer styles they make now. Please let me know if that's the situation you're in and we can work from there; I'm highly confident that we have a modern operator that will replace your old style, but I would need to see a clear picture of it fully removed from the window. That way I can make out all the details and find the right match for the job.
Great! That sounds like a plan. I'll keep my fingers crossed in the hope that they can source these for you.
If not, then there is a quick fix you can do in the meantime. What I've done before in a pinch was pad out the stem of the old handle with scotch tape. This gave it just enough grip in the operator hole to operate more or less normally.
The downside is that this is of course just a temporary solution; it's only going to work for you for so long. You could also conceivably use glue. I generally try to avoid adhesive in repairs like this since it's such a hassle to deal with later down the line, but assuming that you will replace both the handle and operator in the future then it may be worth considering. It's not like you'll reuse either part come replacement time, so I don't see the harm. Just food for thought.
