window latch

Handy Person from Peachtree City, GA
Hi, I broke a window latch and I'm trying to determine what type it is to order a replacement. I did not see any names, numbers or markings for these windows or latches. Hope you can work your magic!

Thanks for posting. The most reliable way to identify these sash locks is the hole spacing, or the distance between the center of each mounting hole, as well as the backset, or the distance between the center of the mounting holes and the rear edge of the lock body. Superficially your lock reminds me of our 90-278, but it has a 2-1/16" hole spacing and 11/16" backset. See the diagram below. Compare to your existing lock and let me know how it differs, if at all.

After installation the 90-278 latch worked perfectly as a replacement for a latch with a broken lever. Two minor surprises: screws were not included with the new lock/keeper, and to use the existing screws I had to drill out the holes in the lock. Not a big deal.

Thanks for letting us know how you made out. Yes, I am afraid our sash locks do not come with fasteners--this is mainly because the best fasteners for your application often depend on the sash as much as it does the lock in question, so it's difficult to supply specific screws for a given part. That said, it's especially worth knowing on our end you had to drill out the holes to use the original fasteners--definitely something for us to bear in mind for future customers. Many thanks again for reaching out, and let us know if you have any other questions.

Yep, 90-278 looks like exactly the correct latch and even the screw holes are in the right location. I've ordered the part from SWISCO. Thanks for your help!
