Thanks.
Thanks for reaching out to us. Your balance looks like a typical extended-travel configuration at first glance; these are routine custom balances that have to be special ordered due to the specificity of their design. However there is one detail that's throwing me off a little: your metal installation clip has a screw.
These clips typically just hook into a hole in the jamb. A screw isn't common at all and may in fact be a deal breaker. I'd like more information before we go any further.
Did your hook have that screw originally, or was it made by the installers? Would it be possible to see what that clip looks like while it's installed? Having an idea of how it functions would allow us to determine if this is a design we can help with.
He said they are wood framed windows build by a small shop, Smokey Point Wood Windows, in 1986. He thinks the window company altered and screwed the clip to the window. I had him look at everything and look at your notes. He has already changed a few of them years ago.
Since the dining and family room windows are the exact same size, I'm just going to order the same for those.
With all that, what is your return policy?
That makes a lot of sense. I appreciate you doing the leg work on that, it really clears things up. I'm not surprised at all to hear that this was a custom configuration (more custom than usual, anyway).
If you found a non-custom balance that works just as well in these windows, then I think that would definitely be the easiest solution for you at this time. I don't think we could replicate this same assembly, altered as it is. You can see our return policy here.
