It sounds like you might be describing a pivot bar, but I don't know for sure. Can you show me a clear photo of the part in question so that I can see if anything we carry matches?

Yep, that's a pivot bar alright. To be more specific, you have the old Certainteed brand pivot bar. I recommend our 26-175. The design is a little different but it's just a modern version of your older part. Aside from appearance they function exactly the same. The video below will show you what I mean.
