Broken lower piece of the American craftsman window

Hi, lower sash of my American craftsman window broke and it doesn't keep open any longer. I can open the window but it won't keep open with me putting something to hold it. Is there a way to fix it?

I don't know what this balance is

All I know is, I'm having a hard time opening and shutting my window. I don't know if that's the Spring that helps me open the window, I just don't know anything about this. Gorrell 5155 tilt window hardware

The window springs are 9/16" thick, 1 3/8" wide to fit the tracks. The corner latch wraps the side.
