15-104 removal/installation help for jambliner spring balances

Quick Learner
I took a chance and ordered your 15-104. I may need some insight as to how to remove the white balance covers or whatever they are that the sash slides on. They seem to be made out of vinyl and I do not want to crack them or damaged them since they allow the window to operate.
So when I receive the new shoes, I may need your assistance to remove the old ones and put the new ones in. any help you can provide regarding removal and installation will be greatly appreciated. thanks for the help.

Hello,

To remove and install a new friction shoe, you will need to remove the sashes and the jamb liners, then slide the friction shoes out of the jamb tracks.

Taking apart the window is no easy feat, and varies from window to window; you may want to contact a local pro to do the job for you if you're unable to remove the jamb liners. There is an alternative option: heat the track up a bit so you can squeeze the new shoe in. This is also not the easiest task and you risk damaging your window, but it's the only other way.

With a heat gun or hair dryer, you'd heat up the track near where the old shoe is sitting. When the track is soft enough, you should be able to remove the old shoe and install the new one. If you choose this method, be extremely careful not to over heat and damage the track. If you damage the track, your window will no longer function. Thanks for posting!
