We recently ordered and received replacement balances for our windows (2740s) and when ordering, we followed the prior part number which had 27-4 Caldwell stamped on the part.
After we had received our order, and were replacing the balances, we identified another piece that had 27-3 Caldwell stamped on the part.
The new balances we received from you (2740s) appear to be too much spring for the windows, making them hard to close. Our window which had the 27-4 on the left and a 27-3 on the right was perfect to open and close; also, upon visual inspection both the 27-4 and 27-3 appear to have the same spring, with the same tension gaps (i.e., coil), when they really should be different (?).
When ordering, we did not note the window weight and have since weighed the window, it's 14 lbs.
One final note, visually, the 2740 spring is longer and much tighter coiled than the original 27-4 Caldwell part we have. Since your products seem to differ slightly from our original parts (of similar part number), do you recommend that we use the 2740s or order the 2730s?
We can send a photo of our original 27-4 balance next to your 2740 to compare if that would help. Thank you.

Thanks for posting. Since your sash weight is 14 pounds, then I recommend our 2730. As you can see on the chart on the S385-28 store page, the 2730 is meant to carry a sash weight of 13 through 19 pounds. 2740 is too strong.
Don't worry about the appearance of the spring. That is not a reliable way to gauge how strong or effective it is. The weight of your sash is the most important thing.
