29" series 795 channel balance

Good afternoon,

One of the channel balances on one of my windows recently broke, and so i ordered a new set of what i thought was the correct ones.

I recieved the new set - and they appeared pretty much identical to the old ones. I installed them, and tried to reinstall the window, however the window will not go all the way down - it stops about 6 inches from being closed, and it appears that the t-lock balance is rubbing and twisting a bit in the channel.

I ordered the 29D - could it be that the spring is too strong which is keeping the window from closing all the way and causing the balance and t-lock to slightly twist? The only markings i could find on the old channel balance was "28-5" and when i weighed the window on the bathroom scale it weighed at just shy of 25 lbs

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

It honestly sounds like this could be an issue with length. When a balance is too short for the application, it can lead to the precise problem you describe. Make sure to triple check the length of the original balance to be safe. An improper spring strength is also possible, but given that you chose the 29D for a 25 pound sash I don't think that's it. That is the proper calibration for this window.

A third possibility is that the Series 795 simply just the wrong part for the job. I'd be happy to review that for you, but I'll need a photo of the original to use as a reference.

Lastly, check the window tracks for any kind of debris or damage that might be blocking the normal passage of the balance.
