my channel measures 31 but has 28HD stamped on it.
Which do I need to order?

Could you confirm the length of your metal channel? Based on your stamp, it should be 29" long, not 31".

The entire channel is 31 and the stamping is 28 hd

To determine the option you will need for a 31" Series 751 balance, remove the window sash and place it on a scale.
This series 751 ribbed channel balance also known as a block and tackle balance has a 31" long metal ribbed channel and is for a tilt window. This balance comes fully assembled with a 15-014 shoe. The channel width measures 9/16" but is considered 1/2" in the trade.
