3/8" coil balance springs

I hope you can help. These coil springs are in tandem, and they mount similar to a WRS series 37, with a single tan to the inside of each spring, but as the photo shows they are only 3/8" wide, with the shoe itself measing 1/2", so a 17/32" springer isn't going to work. Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out! Your coil balance assemblies can be replaced with the Series 140 Quick-Tilt Balances which features a 9/16" thick shoe. These balances are sold as complete assemblies; unfortunately, we do not sell the compatible coil springs separately.

That being said, I'll need to know the exact weight of the sash to determine the correct replacement for your balances.

Im not sure a 9/16 shoe will fit in the channel, I measured it at 1/2' deep. The new springs should go in my old shoes, correct?

As mentioned, we do not sell the old spring separately. It is not something that can easily be removed and installed to the shoe given the design.

That said, I am confident the replacement will work for your repairs, I'll just need to know the exact weight of the sash to recommend the exact assembly needed for your window. Were you able to confirm the sash weight?

Sash weight is just under 20#, can I use the single 10# units instead of the doubles? Also, will they require surgery to the frame to replace, or can they drop in from the top? Thanks, Kirk

Hi Kirk,

So long as the sash weight falls between 19-20.99lbs, the S140-10 should be what you need. If it is anything below that, you'll likely need a different spring strength; be sure to double check the sash weight to confirm.
