39-027E Installation on old wood windows

A handy person from Portland, Or says:

Hi. Can your 39-027E be used in the same way as the 39-020 on old wood casement windows with fixed butt hinges? The advantage I see of these newer hinges is that it appears they have a cover that fits over the mechanism. Am I correct?

It could be possible, theoretically, but you'd have to get a new sash track to go along with it. The wheel on the 39-020 is very small, while the wheel on the 39-027E is a lot thicker.

Even then, it would probably require some adaptation of the sill and sill trim to get this to fit since their design is so different.

The 39-027E does have a cover but it is built into the operator and cannot be removed or replaced. It's better to not think of it as a cover and more like it's part of the mechanism.
