How is the 40-184 handle secured to the 5/16 shaft?
I have a patio door handle, that is similar, but to handle connection ring is breaking so snap ring will not hold it. See photo image 1328.

The spindle for the 40-184 is connected to the handle with a small set screw. That being said, I don't think that's going to repair your handle set. The 40-184 is explicitly designed to repair the 40-183 handle set, which doesn't appear to be what you have here.
I've honestly never seen your handle set before. Can you tell me the distance between the two installation holes, center to center? Can I also see the mortise these handles interact with?
