82-005 Schematic

We have to drill out some of the frame to install this so it would be nice to know the proper way the lock goes together.
Thanks, Linda

Hey, Linda. I'm not sure I understand your question. This just mounts right on the face of the door. You would pick out one of the existing mounting holes, then drill a second hole 4-15/16" from it (making sure to measure from the center of each hole, not their edges). Then you just screw the 82-005 on. You would do the same for the keeper, but on the frame instead of the door. You just have to make sure it aligns with the latch hook on the 82-005.
What exactly are you having trouble with?

Because we have to cut into the door frame to install the keeper, I want to be sure how it fits together.
Sorry to be a pest, but we haven't been able to lock the door for several months.

Well, you have the L shaped piece and the E shaped piece. You'll note that both pieces have two elongated installation holes. The L cradles the E in such a way that the two elongated holes line up. If you're making a cut out in your frame, you probably don't even need the L piece. I don't think it's necessary for the latch to hook into the keeper, it's just there to help it install in certain doors.
