Alenco window

A home owner from San Diego, CA says:
Hello! We have a single-hung Alenco aluminum window, 46" wide x 58" high, original window from 1989 construction. Attached are photos of the window taken from the inside and outside. The mechanism located on the left and right sides of the window frame no longer hold the window in position when it is opened. The window is very heavy to lift up and falls back down. I don't know what this part is called but it sounds like it's a spring mechanism. Is it called a balance?

Can I order this part and are there repair instructions that a handyman can follow? Thanks so much. I appreciate your help! Kindly, Keiko

Casey from SWISCO responded:

Hello,

Correct, the supports on either side of the sash are called balances. Your window appears to use spiral balances. There's a good chance that we can offer replacements, but we'll need to see the entire mechanism removed from the window to identify a potential replacement. See our guide below for assistance. Thank you!
