American Craftsman 4000 Series Year-2004
Thanks for posting. Yes, we can help with this. I am assuming the coil balance was in a shoe like the 15-087. Please review the diagram below to confirm the dimensions match. If so, this is a Series 180 Coil Balance. The mounting bracket is our 16-024. See the diagrams below for reference. Let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you for your quick and informative response. All the parts you sent are familiar but do not seem to include the coil itself, unless I am missing something?
The window measures 35" X 35" tip to tip.
I am not sure it that factors into the strength(4lb, 5lb or 6lb) of the coil itself or not?
The coil is the Series 180 that Bob mentioned in his initial response, which is sold separately. As for weight, there should be a stamp on the old spring that you can use to determine the proper weight option for this Series. Size doesn't really help us determine that.
If there is no stamp on the old spring then you will need to get the exact weight of the sash and then divide that by how many springs support it altogether. For example, if your sash weighed 20 pounds and you had two springs on each side, you would divide 20 by 4; the 5 pound strength option would be what you want.
Lastly, make sure to review the dimensions for the 15-087 pivot carrier Bob shared above. Just eyeballing your photos, it looks like your spring might be thicker than 9/16". There are other sizes, so that's something you have to be mindful of. I could be wrong, of course, so if it is 9/16" thick then you can ignore me.
