American Craftsman Series 50 Single Hung Vinyl Windows - Need Balance Help

A quick learner from Winter Springs, FL says:

Hi,

I appreciate the all the details on your website. I cannot match up my window balances from windows bought at Home Depot in 2010 which and are American Standard Series 50 single hung vinyl windows.

Over the last year or so multiple balances on the larger windows have failed.

The metal potion only measures 23" and approx 9/16" wide (1/2"). They are stamped 22 11 but measure 23" (metal only).

The moving part of the window (sash) weight 38 Lbs.

I need to know which weight range balance to use, since there are two balances do I divide the window sash weight in half and therefore need 19 lbs. force for each balance?

Thank you,

Craig

From photos looks like model S390 using top 19-002 and bottom (shoe) 15-001.

Please advise.

Thanks for contacting us! You do not divide the sash weight between your balances, no. With that in mind, 38 pounds is pretty heavy for a balance in this size, but we will do our best to find an S390-23 channel balance that can support that kind of weight. Please give us a little more time to look into it and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Hello again! I have good news. We can provide our S390-23 with a 2175 stamp as a special order. This stamp indicates a spring that can carry 37 through 40 pounds. To reiterate, this is assuming both balances are carrying the load.

If you were interested, please let me know how many you need and we can email you an order link and price quote for that quantity. Special order balances also cannot be returned for a refund, so you may want to send us a couple photos of your nylon fittings and stamp just to be 110% sure. We're happy to look over the data and confirm your pick.
