Assistance Identifying 28D Window Balance

Question

Please find attached a photo of the stampings on a broken channel balance. It appears to match your S385-28 replacement; however, I'm not sure of the correct sash weight option. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer in helping me to identify the correct replacement.

For reference, it was being used with a window that is roughly 42" wide.

Hello Patrick. With your balance stamped 28D, the balance should measure 29" long, not 28". If it is 29" long, we recommend the 2840 option. This usually matches stamps of "28D," but you can always weigh your window sash to be 100% sure. Let us know how you made out.
