Block and Tackle Rod Balance

Home Owner from Chesapeake, Virginia

My block and tackle rod balances have all failed due to breakage of the plastic parts. The rod is 25.25 inches long and 1/4-inch diameter. The spring is 14 inches long and 1/2-inch diameter. Can you supply a balance to replace this old type of balance? The window weighs 19 lbs. I will probably require about a dozen.

thanks for your help

Hey there,

Thanks for posting! Your balances appear to be the discontinued crossbow style balance. The good news is that they can potentially be converted to our Series 795 Channel Balances.

To confirm that these balances will be a situatable replacement, you'll need to obtain a few measurements from your existing balances. These include the length of an undamaged balance, the diameter of the balance channel/tube. This measurement should be 1/2"; please let me know if it is 3/8".

You will also need to obtain the width of the bottom T-shaped attachment (it will either be 1" or 1-1/4" across the bottom of the T shape) as well as the exact weight of the window to select the correct stamp option.

Take a look at the video below for instructions on this balance conversion and the information you'll need to determine the correct balances. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
