Broken balance spring

I have one spring broken. I can see no markings. Please help me identify the replacement - the spring alone or assembly.

Your pivot shoe looks like a match for our 15-177, which is compatible with the Series 152 coil spring. Look this part over and let me know if you had any questions.

How do I determine what spring number/strength I need? 8 lb or 9 lb? Do I weigh the sash and divide by 2?

If there is no stamp on the old spring, then you will need to weigh your sash on a scale and divide that by the number of springs used to support it, yes.
