Broken coil ?
I am trying to repair a window that no longer slides properly in my bathroom. Learned a lot from your website and was hoping you could assist with determining how to repair and what parts need to be replaced. Videos on your website have been very helpful.
Thanks,
Andrew
Hi there Andrew!
Thank you for reaching out to us. It looks like you need new coil balances. We can help but we must first identify the pivot shoe. That is the plastic attachment at the bottom of the window which engages with the pivot bar. Can you remove the shoe from the window and show us a photo? The video below will demonstrate how to make a cut out in the window track to remove the hardware.

There is markings on the screwed in plastic piece, I believe they are measurements.
Thanks for your help!
The 15-111 pivot shoe shown in that video differs from yours. I believe you may have something more like 15-228 which uses the 1/2" Series 160 coil springs. You'll ultimately have to remove the old hardware from the window track to confirm. For a new spring support, see the 15-150S. However, you can reuse the old one if it's in good shape.
If there aren't any numbers stamped on the coil springs, you'll have to weigh the window sash on a scale and divide the weight by the total number of springs in the window.
If the spring band measures 1/2", you'd want the Series 160. Based on the numbers printed on the stamp, see the S160-04 4.5-pound spring specifically.
Thank you for the update! We're glad to hear your window is back in action. You know where to find us if you have any future hardware repairs!
