Caldwell Channel Balance

A quick learner from Florida says:

My cord broke on my channel balance.

Here is what is stamped on it:

35 9 45# 23? LT KQ CALDWELL

IT IS 1/2" wise track and is 37" from top to top.

Thank you.

Can you identify what series channel balance I need from the above info.?

I also have a channel balance to replace from a smaller window. It's the same length as above and same width, but is stamped: 35 4 KQ CALDWELL. Can you identify a replacement for this as well?

Thank you!

First, quickly, both your balances are S395-36, if they have the attachments in the photos. Measure the metal channel to be sure that it's 36" long by itself. It should be.

Now, replacing this is a little bit complicated. I think your larger balance is incorrect, actually. Let me explain.

It looks like you have a special balance in the bigger window, a very strong balance. I worry that it's too strong, and that it tugged on your cord too hard, breaking it.

That 45# code is typical of custom strength balances. Let's see if you really needed such a strong balance.

What is the weight of your window sash? Do you know if these balances are the original balances that were installed in the window? That will allow me to calibrate the balance for you, and we will see if the installer made a mistake in choosing the original balance.

A quick learner from Florida says:
Thanks Ben, I measured and it is 36 inches, I weighed it, the weight was 42 lbs., and yes they are the original balances.

Also, I sent a subsequent message when I found another balance of a smaller window, will you respond to it as well?

Lastly, do you also sell the small clips that hold the channel balances in place when popped out?

Thank you!
A quick learner from Florida says:
Thank you for the information.

I still need the info for the channel balance for a smaller window. It is the same length and width, it is stamped: 35 4 KQ, can you tell me what series I need for this window?

Thank you.

I did mention in my post that both your balances are S395-36, if they have the same attachments. The smaller window has a "3540" stamp option. As for the larger window, I believe this will be a custom balance because it is heavier than anything we offer as a stock item. I'm going to refer this to a custom balance expert, who will get back to you ASAP.

Hello! Thanks again for your patience. After reviewing your information and doing a little digging, we were able to find a balance that can support that sash weight. Like Ben suspected, it will have to be a special order. Before we begin, can you just tell me how many you need? Once I know that, I'll email you a special order link for that quantity.

A quick learner from Florida says:
I need 3 for that size window. I have one that still works fine for the 2 windows.
Thanks
