Can't undo the safety

A quick learner from Missouri says:
I bought the Swisco 82-265 lock and 82-249 keeper that goes with it.
They installed well, but the hooks won't retract unless I hold in the safety button with my hand. What's wrong?

I'm not sure what might be wrong. It should be the opposite: the hooks should not be able to extend unless the button is depressed. That's by design, since otherwise hooks could cause irreparable damage to the frame if the door were to be closed while they're extended.

Can you tell me what happens when you depress the button and retract the hooks? Do they then extend without the button needing to be depressed again?

A quick learner from Missouri says:
I manually pressed the safety button to extend the hooks for the sake of the picture so you could see if the issue was that it might not be lined up with the keeper. When the hooks are retracted and I close the door to try and lock it, there's some kind of block there. It won't lock. Either the safety button isn't being pressed or the keeper isn't lined up.

This is a replacement part for both the lock and keeper. I used the exact same holes already in the door and frame. Steve mentioned turning 2 screws on the lock panel to adjust the hooks, but I really dont know which screws. There are 4, aside from the ones I screwed into the door.

Hello,

Tom is out of the office and will be back on Monday. In the meantime, see our video below that will walk you through adjusting the mortise lock hooks as Steve mentioned. I think this is worth giving a try to see if it could correct your problem. Thank you.

A quick learner from Missouri says:
Hi, thanks for getting back to me. We figured out the issue. The inside of the door frame where the keeper goes is too deep so it wasn't initiating the safety. I used the spacers from my last keeper and it still didn't work, so I reinstalled the old keeper and spacers because the old keeper has more depth than what I ordered. How do I go about returning it?
