Capco Window Balance Replacment

Handy Person from Illinois
I have a window balance that is broken and needs replacing. It is a true 1/2 inch channel width, and appears to have a 15-003 shoe and a 19-005 top. It is 28 inches long, and stamped with 2730. I did not see any channel balances listed with this top/shoe combo. Can you help in identifying the right replacement?

Also need clip replacements, but they measured at the 16-002 size.

Good morning, and thanks for posting. Looks like your top attachment is winged, while your bottom is not. I still need to figure out what exactly that bottom shoe is on your old balance. Are you sure it's the 15-003? You should also consider our 15-001 and 15-002 and tell me which is a closer match.

The reason I was thinking the 15-003 was due to the center piece being elevated. See side by side comparison.

I will take some additional measurements though just to be safe and get them back to you.

Were there any other questions? Have you seen anything like this before? My home is 20 years old, and the only identifier on the make is the Capco closure.

I see this kind of balance every day! We can definitely make a replacement for you, I just need you to confirm the shoe. 15-003 is not as commonly used as the 15-001 or 15-002, which is why I want you to make sure.

I see the difference you're talking about, but I think that's just a stylistic difference. It shouldn't affect the functionality of the hardware. The most important thing to consider are the dimensions, specifically the depth.

OK, great. That is very helpful to know. I wasn't sure if that would impact the functionality of the balance. I will measure the shoe this evening and provide the details.

Hi Tom,

I confirmed that the top is the 19-005.

The channel depth when measured with a caliper is 9/16, not 1/2 as previously mentioned.

The shoe is the interesting part. It is almost identical to the 15-003, except the lower length is 1-1/16 or even 1-1/32 instead of 1-3/16. Do you have a shoe like that?

If you can make it, how long will it take?

I think it's more likely you have the 15-001. With a depth of 1-1/16", it sounds like it was worn down with age from its original 1-1/8". Even if its not, you can just grind it down a bit if necessary.

If you agree, take a look at S395-28 with the 2730 option.

Thanks Tom. I will place my order.
