Casement lock is too big

A quick learner from Stafford, NH says:
I have received my order of 38-144, however the new casement lock's plastic tab seems
to be much larger than the original one and I can't bring the lock mechanism
down all the way because I'm afraid it will break. Can you have someone from
the engineering to look at the differences between the two so see if I
should buy a new bracket for the window that might be more compatible with
the new larger lock.......see photo and the new lock is the one with the
black tab.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Looks like your 38-144 was an older model. This isn't made in this style anymore, unfortunately, but replacing the keepers will fix the issue. See our 38-276 and 38-277.
