CertainTeed Window balkances
Hello,
We'd be happy to help but we would need to see the original pivot shoe removed from the window to compare to our inventory. To remove it, you would need to rotate the cam to the unlocked position and slide it up to the cutout using a slotted screwdriver. We've related a few videos on this page to help you through the process. Once we can identify the pivot shoe, that will help us confirm which balance parts would be compatible.
You will also need to locate the numbers stamped on the base of the coil springs to determine the corresponding strength options. If the stamp is worn off or missing, we'll need to know the exact weight of the sash to determine the necessary strength options to support it. Thank you.
Cropped pictures and able to send all in one email.
I would like to order two sets of hrdwr to be able to replace all balances ( for both top and bottom sash)etc on the only
two double hung windows in this house. Also need the part that screws into bottom corners of sashes . One picture shows this part , corroded beyond functional life. Only hrwr that loos fine is the sash locks.
We can't be sure based on a damaged part but I suspect that your pivot bars were discontinued. If so, the good news is that you can use the newer versions. See our 26-175.
For Certainteed windows, we offer the 15-192 pivot shoe that uses the S170 and S171 coil springs, along with the parts listed under the related items section of the 15-192 product page. Please note that some customers have reported that they needed to shave the front of the shoe down to install it in their window jamb.
We also offer a conversion video shown below that works for both Certainteed and Simonton windows that use this type of assembly. Take a look and review the full process below to see which option you'd prefer for your repair.
Unforutnately, we are not able to place orders through this thread but you are welcome to give our customer service team a call (888) 991-1929 to order over the phone. Your coil balances stamp would correspond to the S170-409 for the Certainteed 15-192 balance system. As we mentioned previously, your pivot bars were replaced with the 26-175 pair.
If you opt to go with the Simonton conversion, you would need to weigh the window sash and divide the weight by the number of coils used on both sides to choose the strength options for the S159 springs used with the 15-259 conversion. Note that this new coil balance setup requires the 26-183 pivot bars.
