CertainTeed Window balkances

Home Owner from Kalaheo, Hawaii
I have removed a fixed point part it is 1.25" wide and holds the coil. The coil is 3/4" wide. The coils are broken. There is no stamp on the coil The toe hold piece appears to move up and down the channel. The toe piece appears to be corroded as the part and window will not pop out like shown on the video. The video does not show how the top windows work but it is different than the bottom one. The top windows toe pieces appear to have fallen all the way down the channel. Both the left and right coils are broken as well. The bottom window actually works even though both coils are broken. The top window falls all the way down. I would like to order 4 coils 2 for top and two for bottom and new type pieces for both windows (4). I also need the housing unit for all 4 coils and all four of the Toe pieces. Could you please recommend which parts I should order?

Hello,

We'd be happy to help but we would need to see the original pivot shoe removed from the window to compare to our inventory. To remove it, you would need to rotate the cam to the unlocked position and slide it up to the cutout using a slotted screwdriver. We've related a few videos on this page to help you through the process. Once we can identify the pivot shoe, that will help us confirm which balance parts would be compatible.

You will also need to locate the numbers stamped on the base of the coil springs to determine the corresponding strength options. If the stamp is worn off or missing, we'll need to know the exact weight of the sash to determine the necessary strength options to support it. Thank you.

We can't be sure based on a damaged part but I suspect that your pivot bars were discontinued. If so, the good news is that you can use the newer versions. See our 26-175

For Certainteed windows, we offer the 15-192 pivot shoe that uses the S170 and S171 coil springs, along with the parts listed under the related items section of the 15-192 product page. Please note that some customers have reported that they needed to shave the front of the shoe down to install it in their window jamb.

We also offer a conversion video shown below that works for both Certainteed and Simonton windows that use this type of assembly. Take a look and review the full process below to see which option you'd prefer for your repair.

Unforutnately, we are not able to place orders through this thread but you are welcome to give our customer service team a call (888) 991-1929 to order over the phone. Your coil balances stamp would correspond to the S170-409 for the Certainteed 15-192 balance system. As we mentioned previously, your pivot bars were replaced with the 26-175 pair.

If you opt to go with the Simonton conversion, you would need to weigh the window sash and divide the weight by the number of coils used on both sides to choose the strength options for the S159 springs used with the 15-259 conversion. Note that this new coil balance setup requires the 26-183 pivot bars.
