We are trying to replace some channel balances in our window. Our current balance has 28C stamped on the side, the metal channel is 29 inches long, and it weighs approximately 27.2 lbs. Should we purchase your replacement part S380-29? Also should we purchase the 2840 or the 2850? We will also be ordering top sash guide 1/2 inch number 18-180. Can you please advise us if we are on the right track.

Hi Dean, thanks for posting. The nylon attachments at either end of the metal channel have wings, correct? If so, then yes the S380-29 makes sense to me. If you haven't already, just be sure to take a look at the S385-29 as well. The only difference between these two Series is the 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe. With the Series 380 the depth of this nylon shoe is 1", whereas with the Series 385 it is 1-3/32". Compare with your own and see what is best.
Your stamp number is a little interesting, as 28C conforms to our stamp option of 2830, for a window sash weighing 16 through 23 lbs. If your window sash weighs 27.2 lbs, however, the 2840 would make more sense. Have you ever had trouble keeping your windows open before this? This would be the case if your original balances we're too 'weak' to support the weight of your window sash. This is not unheard of--sometimes the original builders of a window used whatever parts they had on hand to finish a job, so things are not quite what they should be. In any event, double check your window sash weight, and if it is indeed 27.2 lbs, then go with the 2840.
As far as your Top Sash Guide, this can vary greatly from window to window, so if you are uncertain the 18-180 is right, show us 'mugshot photos' of your old guide (front and side profiles) as well as dimensions and we can try and confirm the right replacement for you.
