Channel Balance

Quick Learner from Arizona

Hi,

I need to replace 3 channel balances that have broken in 2 of my windows. I am having a hard time determining if I need the S380 or the S385. I am also not sure which option to pick when it asks me to select one of the options between 2510-2570. Please help. Thanks,

Erin

Hi Erin. Is the length of the metal channel 26", not including the nylon attachments at either end? If so, it's either our S380-26 or S385-26. Now the only difference between these two balances is the depth of the bottom nylon shoe. To picture this dimension, stand your balance up just as it would be sitting in your window track. The 'depth' of the bottom nylon shoe is the distance between the heel and toe of the shoe at its widest point, right beneath and perpendicular to where the metal channel ends. For the S380-26, the depth is 1". For the S385-26, the depth is 1-3/32". Compare both your old balance to see what matches best.

Finally, the stamp option indicates the spring calibration of the balance. There should be a stamp code on the metal channel that indicates the stamp option you need. If there isn't, or you are uncertain, weigh your window sash. You can then match that precise weight with one of the weight ranges listed alongside each stamp option on the product page.
