Channel Balance

Quick Learner from Glassboro, NJ

Thank god for you guys! The 1st 2 pics (10854 and 102833) are of a window that were installed by a handyman. There are no markings. It looks like there is a string that acts as the pulley system.

The next 2 (102622 and 102557) were installed by Window World. Again, no markings but they are metal and seem to have a flat metal pulley to help it go up and down.

Any help you can give me, would be great! I am a quick learner and rather handy.

Thank you

Thanks for writing in! Your channel balance shoe looks like the shoe attached to our Series 755 Channel Balance. The balance is likely behind the balance cover installed in the window. To confirm the correct replacement, you'll need to measurement the length of an undamaged balance as well as the width of the shoe; it will either be 1" or 1-1/4". You will also need to confirm the weight of the sash to confirm the stamp option needed for your balances.

In regard to the coil balance assemblies, the shoe in the window channel appears to be the 15-177 Coil Balance Shoe. To confirm that this is the right replacement, carefully compare the dimensions below.

These are compatible with the 1/2" thick Series 152 coil balance springs. To determine the correct spring strength for a particular sash, you'll need to look for any stamps/markings on the metal coil(s) in the window. If there are no stamps/markings or they are hard to read, you'll need to obtain the exact weight of your sash. Once you have the sash weight, you'll divide it by the number of coils in the window.

You'll likely need the 33-072 to secure the coil to the shoe as well as the 15-143 Coil Bushing, the 15-144 Coil Cushing Cap, and the 15-145 Coil Support Barrel.
