Question

I have the following sash and need help to identify the option. When I called the person helping me mentioned that it is odd to have '29 4 Caldwell 'stamped on a 29 sash. Per my research on your website 29" series 380 should be fine but I do not know, what option to pick. Please help me identify the sash. I will need two.

Thanks for writing in. Is the metal channel of your old balance 29" long, not including the nylon fittings at either end? If so, then you definitely are working with a 29" long balance. It's certainly unusual to have a balance that is 29" long with a stamp code starting with 29, but it's not unheard of. These first two digits refer to the height of the visible glass in the window, and typically the metal channel is 1" longer than this dimension. What sometimes happens is the builder of the window only has balances of a certain size on site during construction, and they make do with what they have. This was probably originally a 30" long balance that was cut down to fit your window. Because of this, the original stamp code no longer is reliable.

Fortunately, we can get around this. First, regarding your balance's identity: I agree, this looks like an S380-29. To know what stamp option to select, you will need to weigh the window sash on a bathroom scale.
