Channel Balance Replacement

Quick Learner from Orlando, FL
Hello, I have two windows that require new balances. One window is stamped 28C (weighs about 17 pounds) and the other is 28D (weighs about the 29 pounds). The top and bottom guides are the same on each balance, but I am having trouble identifying them. The top guide has the same measurements as the 19-005, but it looks a little different on the top. The bottom is almost a 15-005, but it has a depth of 15/16 instead of 1"and a wing length of 1" compared to the 15/16. The length of the balance is 29" and I believe I may need the 2830 and 2840 balances based off the original stamping. If it makes any difference, I believe the top sash is 18-180. Can you confirm these are the proper balances needed?

Hello there. The overall design of the shoe isn't too important, but the depth or heel-to-toe measurement is. If it's 7/8", you might need balances that use our 15-029 shoe instead. If it is greater than 7/8" however, but just slightly less than 1", then the 15-005 is probably correct; sometimes these shoes just wear down a bit from age. Confirm the depth and let me know. If it's 1", then you should be able to use the S380-29

It is just a hair greater than 7/8". The other set measures just less than 7/8"

If one set has shoes just a hair deeper than 7/8", then I suspect both sets might be Series 380 balances that have simply worn down a bit from age. You could always order the S380-29 with a stamp option of 2830 (equivalent to your old stamp code of 28C). If the shoes do prove too deep, you can either return them and we can opt to make balances that use the 15-029 shoe for you via custom order; or, you can sand down the 'heel' of the shoes just enough to make a difference. Just not that modified products cannot be returned for a refund.
